Alvin “Bridal Rose” & Baker Manchester “Poppy” Sterling Bon Bon Spoons – Art Nouveau Pair
A beautifully matched pair of antique sterling silver bon bon spoons, each showcasing the romantic flourishes of American Art Nouveau silverwork. The smaller spoon features Alvin’s Bridal Rose pattern (pat. 1903), celebrated for its deeply sculpted roses and sinuous lines. The larger is from Baker Manchester’s Poppy pattern (c. 1904–1914), with stylized poppy blossoms adorning a gently scalloped bowl. Both patterns are richly expressive, reflecting the artistic movement of their time.
🥄 About Bon Bon Spoons:
Bon bon spoons originated in the late 19th century as specialty serving utensils for dainty confections—typically small candies, sugared almonds, or chocolate-covered nuts—served during teas or formal receptions. They were designed to add elegance to a hostess’s table, often featuring ornate, pierced, or repoussé bowls. Though less common today, they remain coveted among collectors for their intricate craftsmanship and nostalgic charm.
This pair reflects the peak of American sterling production, combining artistry with purpose. Whether displayed or used to serve small treats, they remain functional heirlooms of a gracious past.
Condition:
In good vintage condition, with mild surface wear and light tarnish from age and use. Both spoons remain structurally sound and retain sharp detail in their cast designs. Polishing has been left to the buyer’s discretion.
