Description

Hartford Quadruple-Plate Revolving Castor Set, 6 Bottles, c. 1885

Model 0617 by the Hartford Silver Plate Co. of Connecticut (active 1881-1893), this late-Victorian castor set epitomizes Aesthetic-movement taste. The silver-plated frame rises from a domed pedestal to a pierced triangular handle and supports a six-well carousel edged with an embossed maple-leaf garland; the tray spins smoothly for table service. All six clear-glass vessels are wheel-etched with ribbon-and-leaf swags: three screw-top shakers, two cruets with original faceted stoppers, and a domed-lid mustard pot. The underside bears Hartford’s stag-and-lightning trademark and the desirable “QUADRUPLE PLATE” standard. An elegant, functional centerpiece for the Victorian dining room or advanced silver collection—seldom found complete.

Condition
Good overall, showing expected surface wear and scattered oxidation to the plating; no dents or structural repairs. Carousel rotates freely. One cruet is cracked throughout; the remaining five have minor rim nicks and light interior clouding.
