Description

Drexel Talavera Dining Set — Walnut Table, 6 Chairs, 2 Leaves, c.1960s

This vintage dining set from Drexel’s esteemed Talavera series (model 41-334-3) exemplifies the brand’s commitment to quality and timeless design. Crafted in the 1960s, the set features a solid walnut oval table with two 19.75-inch leaves and four custom table pads. Accompanying the table are six chairs—two captain’s chairs with arms and four side chairs—all showcasing fixed upholstered seats and intricately carved backs, reflecting Spanish Revival influences.

The walnut construction highlights Drexel’s superior craftsmanship, with a warm finish and classic turned legs. The maker's mark is present on the underside of the table, affirming its authenticity. This set serves as both a functional dining ensemble and a statement piece for any formal dining room.

Condition:

In good condition, exhibiting signs of normal use. Minor scuffs and scratches are visible on the legs of the chairs and table, consistent with age and regular handling. The walnut finish shows typical surface wear from use, while the original upholstery remains clean and intact with some ocassional marks. Please refer to photos for detailed views.

Dimensions:

Table (without leaves): 28.75 x 56 x 48 inches
Each leaf: 19.75 inches (total expanded length: 95.5 inches)
Chair: 46.5 x 20.25 x 24.25 inches
Seat: 18.5 x 19.75 x 17.75 inches (height x width x depth)

About Drexel:

Founded in 1903 in Drexel, North Carolina, the Drexel Furniture Company quickly rose to prominence by producing high-quality furniture from native Appalachian hardwoods. Under the leadership of Samuel Huffman and later his son Robert, the company expanded its offerings and reputation, becoming a leading manufacturer of both traditional and modern furniture by the mid-20th century.

In 1956, Drexel merged with the Heritage Furniture Company, forming Drexel Heritage Furnishings, Inc. This merger allowed the company to broaden its product lines and cater to a wider market.

Drexel's commitment to craftsmanship and design excellence is evident in its collaborations with renowned designers like Kipp Stewart, Stewart MacDougall, and John Van Koert, who contributed to iconic collections such as "Declaration," "Profile," and "Projection."

Throughout its history, Drexel maintained a reputation for producing furniture that combined durability with aesthetic appeal, making its pieces highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts today.
