Pair Chinese Hand-Painted Satsuma-Style Covered Tureens 13" & 12"
Vibrant, mid-20th-century Chinese export pair of ceramic covered tureens, each expertly hand-painted in the Japanese Satsuma revival manner. A pale butter-yellow ground supports raised moriage enamel beading, gilt highlights, and richly detailed figural garden scenes alternating with peony, plum-blossom, and bamboo panels. Bamboo-form double handles and domed lids with gold knop finials add sculptural interest, while dotted black borders frame the decoration and continue onto the pedestal foot of the larger vessel. Bases carry a red “中國製造 / Made in China” stamp.
Condition
Good overall: uniform age-related glaze crazing, expected rubbing to gilt on handles, rims, and finials, and a few tiny glaze specks; no chips, cracks, or repairs detected.
