Description

David Lee “Early Winter” 214/300 – Lighted, Framed 38¼ × 30¼ in

Evocative limited‑edition serigraph “Early Winter” by Chinese‑born American printmaker David Lee (Li Tian‑Wen, b. 1944), pencil‑signed and chop‑sealed lower left, numbered 214/300. Lee’s celebrated mist‑shrouded forests—seen in comparable works such as Snowy Mountain (c. 1985) —blend traditional ink‑wash atmosphere with contemporary screen‑printing for a tranquil, minimalist aesthetic. Here, a diagonal stand of frost‑tipped evergreens rises through pale sage fog, while spare blossom branches punctuate the foreground. The print is double‑matted in soft ecru and housed under glass in a brushed‑silver metal frame outfitted with an integral picture light and inline switch (bulb included). A refined accent for modern, Asian‑inspired, or nature‑themed interiors.

Artist Biography – David Lee (李天文, b. 1944)

David Lee is a Chinese-American painter and master printmaker known for his serene landscapes and poetic seasonal scenes. Born in 1944 in Canton (now Guangzhou), China, Lee moved to Hong Kong at a young age and began painting as a child. He quickly gained recognition for his talent, becoming the youngest recipient of the Chinese National Painting Competition in his early teens.

He pursued formal training in fine arts at the University of Taiwan, and furthered his studies at Kaohsiung Normal University and the Far East Academy of Art. His work blends the meditative qualities of traditional Chinese ink painting with the layered tonal effects of contemporary serigraphy, often depicting forests, mountains, birds, and blossoms in soft, atmospheric settings.

Lee eventually immigrated to the United States, settling in Hawai‘i, where he briefly worked for the Republic of China’s consulate before committing full-time to art. His limited-edition serigraphs and original works have been widely exhibited and are held in over 300 collections internationally, including museums and universities in Asia, Europe, and North America.

His series such as Four Seasons, Snowy Mountain, and Morning Blossoms are particularly sought after by collectors and interior designers for their peaceful aesthetic and exceptional technical refinement.

Condition

Good overall; print surface is clean and colors remain strong. Functional frame‑mounted light operates via inline switch. Note a few small specks of debris trapped behind the glazing and minor rubs to frame edges—no damage to the artwork itself.
