Hickory French Provincial Secretary & Hutch
This vintage French Provincial secretary desk and hutch by Hickory Manufacturing Co. beautifully showcases the craftsmanship and decorative elegance for which the North Carolina-based maker became known. Founded in 1902, Hickory Manufacturing quickly earned a reputation for producing fine bedroom and accent furniture, often seen in high-end interiors such as the Biltmore Estate.
This two-piece unit exemplifies their later 20th-century work, with a warm patina finish, scalloped apron, and carved bonnet crest. The hutch, which lifts off for easy moving, features arched wire-mesh doors and two adjustable glass shelves, all illuminated by an interior light—ideal for showcasing fine china or collectibles.
The drop-front desk opens to reveal a writing surface with cubbyholes and a small drawer, while below, a narrow utility drawer and three deep drawers offer generous storage. Original brass drawer pulls and escutcheons are intact. The piece is maker-marked with a cast brass medallion, the mark of Hickory Furniture.
A versatile and functional statement piece, well suited for an entryway, study, or cottage-inspired interior.
