F. Lorenzen Embossed Copper Fire-Front – Western Scene, 30", c. 1900
This large antique embossed copper stove pipe cover or “summer fire-front” was made by F. Lorenzen & Co., Chicago, circa 1900. It features a vivid repoussé frontier scene: a cowboy on horseback in the foreground, approaching a Native American figure raised above a rocky bluff. The imagery is framed by swirling cloud motifs and botanical details, all bordered with an ornate foliate trim.
Lorenzen was among the leading producers of decorative mantels and stove accessories in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, known for their artistic detail and quality. This fire-front, with its richly embossed copper-plated surface over steel, was likely sold as part of their high-end mantel sets and used to conceal summer fireplace openings when the stove was not in use.
An authentic piece of American decorative arts—substantial in size and rich with period character.
