Description

Hand-Painted Japanese Fish Bowl Jardinière — Birds & Florals, w/ Stand

A decorative Japanese ceramic fish bowl jardinière, hand-painted with vivid panels featuring birds perched among chrysanthemums, peonies, and maple foliage. The exterior is richly embellished with enamel and gilt accents on a dark stippled background, framed by a geometric border at the rim. Inside, the bowl features koi fish and aquatic plant motifs—traditional decorative elements in ornamental fish bowls.

Marked underneath with red painted numerals “12” and “13,” and a red stamp reading: “NOT FOR FOOD USE — MAY POISON FOOD.” This marking identifies the bowl as intended for decorative purposes only, common among mid- to late-20th century Japanese export wares. Includes an elegant carved wood stand for display.

Condition:
Good overall vintage condition with light wear and signs of use. Some mineral deposits are present inside the bowl. Painted surfaces are intact with minimal rubbing; no cracks or structural damage noted.

Dimensions:
Bowl Only: 11.5 x 14.5 inches (Height x Diameter)
With Stand: 18 inches high
