Chinese Hardstone Flowering Tree in Carved Jade Pot, 18” Tall
A large and visually captivating Chinese hardstone flowering tree, likely mid-20th century, composed of hand-carved blossoms and foliage made from semi-precious stones including rose quartz, carnelian, jadeite, and serpentine. The flowers are intricately shaped and wired into a sculptural form, with branches rising from a mineralized trunk base and set in a carved pale green jadeite planter.
Often referred to as “gemstone trees” or “Ming Trees,” these pieces are steeped in Chinese symbolism. The floral motif represents growth, harmony, and vitality, while jade is revered for its association with longevity and virtue. Such trees were popular in the mid-20th century for both their decorative appeal and spiritual significance, frequently used in Feng Shui practices to promote balance and prosperity.
An elegant and meaningful decorative object, ideal for collectors of Chinese art and hardstone carvings.
Condition:
In good condition overall. Some fraying and wear are present on the silk wrapping at branch joints and on the faux moss or foliage at the base. Dust accumulation in crevices is visible, and the jadeite pot has natural inclusions and light scuffing consistent with age.
