Cristalleries de Vannes-le-Châtel Crystal Vase — Signed French Art Glass, 7.75"
This crystal vase was produced by Cristalleries de Vannes-le-Châtel, a historic glassworks located in France’s Lorraine region. Established in the 18th century and nationally recognized for its technical precision and design evolution, the manufactory became particularly known in the postwar period for producing sculptural lead crystal objects that responded to the era’s growing interest in modern form and optical depth.
The vase features a bold, asymmetrical relief pattern—an interplay of concave and convex impressions that shift with light and perspective. Made from thick, clear lead crystal, it demonstrates the firm's expertise in cold-working and mold-blown shaping, resulting in strong optical distortion and a substantial feel. The broad, flared rim and heavily faceted body suggest both a functional vessel and a sculptural display piece.
Signed on the base: Vannes-le-Châtel France, confirming its origin. The workshop is today recognized as part of France’s formal heritage institutions and continues to be associated with CERFAV, a national center for glass arts and research.
