George Zee Rosewood Cabinet c.1971 – Brass Lock, Symbol Carvings, Hong Kong
This solid rosewood cabinet was crafted by George Zee & Co. Ltd. in Hong Kong and dates to 1971, as confirmed by the original company invoice.
It features two dovetailed drawers above a two-door storage compartment with a removable shelf (with clearances of 8.75" and 8"). Deeply carved longevity symbols—traditional Chinese motifs representing long life—embellish the front and sides, showcasing the skilled craftsmanship typical of George Zee pieces.
Original solid brass hardware includes stylized pulls, a working lock with key, and flathead screws. A brass nameplate on the back (No. 70-119037) corresponds to a 1971 packing invoice listing the cabinet at HK$1,006, affirming its original premium status.
Condition:
In good condition overall, with age-appropriate wear. Some surface scuffing, fading, and finish loss are visible, including a 1" worn section on the top surface and mild cup rings. Wear is more pronounced around the feet, but the structure remains solid and fully functional.
