Description

H.E. & L Works Steamer Trunk—Hand-Painted Birds, Brass Hardware, c.1900

This antique flat-top steamer trunk is marked “H.E. & L Works, Harrison, N.Y.” and dates to the early 20th century. Its olive green canvas exterior is decorated with hand-painted bird and floral motifs, adding character to its rugged form. Outfitted with aged brass hardware and decorative corner brackets, it opens to reveal a patterned green paper interior with a period pocket on the lid.

A charming decorative piece or storage solution, this trunk blends utilitarian craftsmanship with artistic flourishes typical of its era.

Condition:
In fair condition. The top lid has a wood split with an old repair. The interior lining shows notable wear, and the right latch is damaged and does not close securely. Both leather side handles are missing, and there is age-appropriate wear to the surface, leather, and metal fittings throughout.

Size:
26 x 40 x 22 inches (Height x Width x Depth)
