U.S. Army Footlocker Trunk — Maj. Gen. Edward Greer, WWII–Vietnam
This authentic U.S. Army footlocker belonged to Major General Edward Greer (1924–2025), a trailblazing officer whose distinguished military career spanned over three decades and three major conflicts. Constructed from durable riveted steel with reinforced edges and painted in traditional olive drab green, the trunk features its original military hardware, including handles, latches, and a locking hasp.
Prominently stenciled with LT. COL. EDWARD GREER 057426, it reflects his rank during the Vietnam War era.
Greer's military journey began in 1943 when he enlisted in the segregated Army, serving in the 777th Field Artillery Battalion during World War II. He rose through the ranks, earning a Silver Star for valor in Korea and commanding artillery units in Vietnam. In 1972, he became one of the first Black officers promoted to brigadier general, later achieving the rank of major general before retiring in 1976. Post-retirement, Greer settled in El Paso, Texas, where he remained active in civic affairs until his passing in 2025 at age 100 .
