British No. 7 Mk I/L Bayonet with Scabbard — WWII Elkington Production
A highly collectible WWII-era British No. 7 Mk I/L bayonet, produced in limited quantities for Land Service use. This model stands apart for its unique swiveling pommel design, allowing it to function both as a bayonet and a fighting knife. Manufactured by Elkington & Co. of Birmingham—better known for silverware—the piece is marked “E.A.B.” and “396” on the ricasso, with additional crown inspection stamps.
The blade is fullered and remains sharp, measuring 8.25 inches. The grip is made from checkered Paxolin (resin-impregnated fabric), and the brass butt cap unscrews as designed. The included metal scabbard is marked “6/119 No 730 No 339” and trip-stamped “029,” indicating military issue and possible inspection codes.
Produced between 1944 and 1948 in relatively low numbers, especially by Elkington, this is an increasingly sought-after example of innovative British WWII armament. A rare find for any serious bayonet collector.
Condition
In good condition with sharp blade and solid structural integrity. Light wear throughout consistent with age and military use. Blade edge is clean with minor handling marks. The handle and pommel are fully functional, with some surface scuffing and patina. Scabbard fits securely and shows expected cosmetic wear. Please review the photos for detailed condition.
