Description

Theo A. Koch Model 901 Barber Pole c.1930s – 6 Ft Cast Iron

A striking and rare early 20th-century Koken Model 795 barber pole, produced by the legendary Koken Barber Supply Co. of St. Louis. This full-size floor model showcases the company’s signature design and craftsmanship: a vividly painted red, white, and blue rotating cylinder encased in cast iron and porcelain enamel, topped with a classic milk-glass globe light. The cast arms are clearly stamped “KOKEN” and “795”.

This model features a key-wound mechanical crank that operates the internal rotating cylinder — a distinctive and increasingly rare working feature. The electric globe light has been tested and functions, though the wiring is aged. Original components are largely intact, including the inner glass cylinder and large base with typical four-bolt design.

With its vibrant color scheme and mechanical motion, this piece is both an iconic advertising artifact and a functional conversation piece. Ideal for collectors of Americana, historic interiors, or period-style retail décor.

Condition:
In good antique condition consistent with age and use. Surface wear includes scratches, paint loss, and areas of wear typical of vintage cast iron and porcelain. The milk glass globe is intact. The wind-up crank operates smoothly and rotates the internal cylinder as intended. The electric globe light is functional, though the wiring is aged and probably should be replaced soon. Please refer to detailed photos for a complete view of condition.

Dimensions:

  • Overall height (with globe): 83 inches
