Antique Schlenker & Kienzle Vienna Regulator — Hand-Carved, Spring-Driven, c.1901
This antique Vienna Regulator wall clock is a refined example of early 20th-century German horology by Schlenker & Kienzle, a celebrated Black Forest clockmaker. Founded in 1822 as Johannes Schlenker’s workshop and later led by Jakob Kienzle, the firm became famous for pioneering modern clock production methods and precision engineering.
The brass movement bears the distinctive winged wheel logo and is marked “D.R. Patent 125605” — “D.R.” stands for Deutsches Reichspatent, meaning it was an officially registered Imperial German patent, granted in 1901 to protect a specific mechanical innovation. The serial number and movement details align with the firm’s peak production era.
The hand-carved walnut case features turned side columns, a removable decorative crest, and original etched glass panels. Its embossed brass dial is accented by delicate hands and a gilt brass pendulum with repoussé floral detail. The robust spring-driven mechanism chimes on the hour and quarter-hour and includes the original winding key and pendulum.
An impressive, historically documented piece for collectors and admirers of fine European clocks.
