"Deer Dancer" by Super Moon – Native-Inspired Wall Sculpture, Mixed Media
Powerful and dimensional wall-mounted sculpture titled “Deer Dancer”, signed verso by the artist Super Moon. This evocative work draws from Native American ceremonial traditions—most notably the Deer Dance, a symbolic ritual honoring the harmony between people, nature, and spirit animals.
Expertly crafted from leather, carved wood, horsehair, buffalo hide, fur, antler, and beads, the piece features a stoic male bust with hand-painted facial markings in black and red. A vibrant beaded headband crowns the forehead, while real antlers and a full fur headdress lend the figure commanding presence. The figure wears a traditional-style bone necklace and hangs over a shaped leather chest panel. Mounted on a stylized wood backboard with feather-like cutouts, the sculpture is both rustic and ceremonial in feel.
While little is publicly documented about the artist Super Moon, the quality of workmanship and choice of materials suggest deep familiarity with Southwestern and Native-inspired design motifs. This is a statement wall piece with strong visual and cultural impact.
