Pair of Mata Ortiz Blackware Pots — Signed Yuli Gaona & Mexican-Made

This lot features two blackware pottery vessels from the Mata Ortiz tradition. The first is a hand-coiled piece signed by Yuli Gaona, showcasing a glossy black finish with matte-etched geometric patterns. Its broad body and flared rim highlight skilled craftsmanship. The second, smaller pot is unsigned but bears a “Hecho en Mexico” label on the underside, suggesting Mexican origin. It mirrors the style of the Gaona piece, with similar etched decoration and glossy finish.

Condition:
The signed Yuli Gaona pot is in good condition, with two minor chips to the rim, as shown in photos. Surface wear is consistent with age and use. The smaller, unsigned pot appears intact with typical light wear. Both retain strong visual appeal.

Dimensions:

  • Yuli Gaona Pot: 6.5 x 7.5 x 4.5 inches
  • Smaller Pot: 4.25 inches high x 4 inches diameter
