Japanese-Style Tansu Cabinet – 11 Drawers, Bamboo Door, Rustic Finish
A vintage Japanese-style tansu storage cabinet, featuring a total of 11 drawers and a bamboo-latticed door compartment. Constructed from a mix of solid woods and veneers, this piece balances practical storage with rustic handmade appeal. The left column includes 10 shallow drawers (each approx. 2.25" high), ideal for organizing tools, paper, or textiles. The right side features a woven bamboo panel door with a fixed internal shelf, providing 12" vertical clearance—perfect for taller items. Below that is a deeper drawer with a bamboo front, measuring approximately 7" in height. The design is compact yet efficient, with distinctive Japanese joinery-inspired details and a dark, weathered finish. The figure of Bob Ross (6'2"), shown beside it, offers clear scale reference.
Condition:
In poor condition with extensive visible wear throughout. The cabinet shows heavy surface scratches, chips, edge damage, and finish loss. Some scuffing and color variation is evident, and veneer separation is possible in spots. That said, the structure remains stable and drawers function as intended. An excellent candidate for restoration, or suitable as-is for rustic or wabi-sabi-inspired interiors.
