Peter Hurd “Windmill Well at Night” Lithograph —Framed
“Windmill Well at Night” is a lithograph by American artist Peter Hurd (1904–1984). A poignant tribute to the Southwestern landscape, this work captures a windmill and circular water tank under a crescent moon, set against gently rolling hills. The stillness of night is conveyed through Hurd’s nuanced grayscale tonality, demonstrating his mastery of light and atmosphere.
This piece is part of a series of lithographs Hurd created in the 1930s reflecting rural American life, and it is held in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum (Object No. 1979.98.116). The artist’s name appears in the stone at lower right.
Elegantly framed in a chrome-tone metal frame with a cream mat, this print offers both historical significance and visual serenity—ideal for collectors of American Regionalism or Southwestern art.
Condition:
Excellent condition overall. The print and matting are pristine, with no signs of wear or discoloration. Note: There is a minor joint separation at the lower right corner of the frame, which does not affect stability or presentation.
