The chest sits atop a black wrought iron stand with scrolled legs. However, the base is a later marriage—not original to the piece—and is somewhat underbuilt for the weight of the cabinet. It remains stable when positioned flush against a wall, but is not recommended for freestanding use without support.

Notable condition issues include a crude repair or modification to the lower right corner, where part of the base has been roughly cut away. Additionally, the top surface shows significant staining, watermarks, and darkened patches, likely from years of unprotected use. Despite these cosmetic flaws, the structure is solid and the drawers slide smoothly.

A large section of the bottom right base has been cut, with exposed wood and uneven moulding. The iron base is non-original and underweight relative to the chest but remains stable when both are placed against a wall. Wear throughout is consistent with use, age and purposeful distressing. All drawers are intact and functional.
