Description

Towle King Richard Sterling Flatware – 40 Pc Set, 63.47 ozt / 1,974g, with Chest

Offered is a 40-piece sterling silver flatware set in the regal ‘King Richard’ pattern by Towle Silversmiths, introduced in 1932 and designed by Ferdinand Poppenhauser. Inspired by heraldic English design and Renaissance ornamentation, this pattern is highly regarded for its scrollwork, crest motif, and balanced elegance.

Each piece is marked “Towle Sterling” and crafted in solid sterling silver (handles only for knives/spreaders). This set combines refined design with lasting value—ideal for collectors, silver investors, or formal entertainers.

Included in the set:

Item Quantity    Length   Weight (ozt / g)
Dinner Forks 6 7 3/8" 12.70 ozt / 395 g
Salad Forks 7 6 1/2" 10.62 ozt / 330.4 g
Teaspoons 11 6" 14.26 ozt / 443.4 g
Dessert Spoons 6 6 1/4" 9.78 ozt / 304.1 g
Butter Knives (handles only) 7 9" 3.5 ozt / 108.9 g
Flat Spreaders (handles only) 2 5 3/4" 1 ozt / 31.1 g
Butter Spreader 1 7 1/2" 1.61 ozt / 50 g
Total Weight 63.47 ozt / 1,974 g

Note: Butter knives and spreaders contain stainless blades—weights shown for sterling handles only.

Comes with:
A red-lined wood storage chest, approx. 5" x 15" x 11", in clean, serviceable condition.

Condition:
In good overall vintage condition with typical surface wear and natural patina from use. No deep scratches, monograms, or structural issues. All pieces lie flat. Tarnish is present but consistent; polishing has been left to the buyer's preference. The chest shows light external scuffing but remains protective and sturdy.

This pattern remains one of Towle’s most collectible and enduring, and complete vintage sets are increasingly hard to find in this size. Whether for personal use, investment, or resale, this is a high-quality addition to any sterling silver collection.
