Antique Vienna Regulator Wall Clock – German, Porcelain Dial, c.1890, w/ Key
A stately late 19th-century Vienna Regulator wall clock, made in Germany circa 1890. This example features a finely crafted case of solids and veneers, with original glass panels and ornate accents, turned columns, and a lion’s head crest beneath a classical pediment.
The white porcelain dial with Roman numerals and pierced black hands is set behind a gilt brass bezel. Below, the “R=A” temperature-compensated pendulum and original level indicator affirm its precision craftsmanship. The spring-driven mechanical movement, stamped “4” on the backplate and assembled with flat-head screws, aligns with German production of the era. A winding key is included.
Condition
In good overall condition and currently running. The movement appears complete and functional, with the original pendulum and key present. The porcelain dial shows expected age-related wear, including fine hairline cracks, and there is a small chip (approx. 0.25") on the lower right side of the case. The wood finish exhibits mild surface wear consistent with age. Evidence of prior restoration is visible but does not detract from presentation or function.
