Stromberg-Carlson 1543 Rotary Desk Telephone — Black, Mid-Century Design
This vintage Stromberg-Carlson 1543 rotary desk telephone, produced in the early 1950s, showcases the company's distinctive "cut corner" design—a response to the iconic Western Electric 500 series. Crafted from durable black Bakelite, it features a classic rotary dial and original coiled cord. Markings on the underside include "742 Special," "1543WJ," and "60," indicating its specific variant and suggesting a production year around 1960.
The telephone's robust construction reflects the quality craftsmanship of its era. While untested, the rotary mechanism and handset appear intact, making it a compelling piece for collectors or as a nostalgic decorative item.
Condition:
In good condition with age-appropriate wear. The Bakelite surface exhibits light scuffs and minor handling marks. A 1" x 2" piece is missing from the underside where the phone rests, and the cord has become tacky over time. The dial mechanism and handset are intact, but the phone remains untested and is sold as-is.
Dimensions:
4 1/2 x 8 x 9 inches (Height x Width x Depth)
