Description

U.S. Model 1872 Cavalry Officer’s Saber — Brass Hilt, F.B. & Co. Rig, 34" Blade

This is a U.S. Model 1872 Cavalry Officer’s Saber, a regulation sidearm adopted in 1872 and used through the early 20th century. The steel scabbard is marked “24” near the throat. Accompanying the saber is a leather suspension rig with brass fittings, one hook stamped “F. B. & Co.,” likely indicating the rig's manufacturer. This saber exemplifies the design used by U.S. cavalry officers during the Indian Wars period
