WWII German Ice Axe “Lc 41” with 1944 Swiss Waelchli Leather Sheath
A compelling WWII-era hybrid ice axe combining German military and Swiss craftsmanship. The forged steel head is clearly marked “Lc 41,” denoting German wartime manufacture in 1941—likely for Gebirgsjäger (mountain troops) engaged in Alpine warfare. The axe features the classic military-style configuration with a pick and adze head mounted to a 21.75" hardwood shaft.
Enhancing its uniqueness, the original leather sheath is Swiss-made and embossed: “44 / E. WAELCHLI / SELLIER / LA FERRIERE”—indicating production in 1944 by the saddler E. Waelchli in La Ferrière, Switzerland.
