U.S. Model 1855 Civil War Socket Bayonet — “U.S.” Marked, 21" Length
Authentic U.S. Model 1855 socket bayonet, issued for use with .58 caliber Springfield rifled muskets including the Models 1855, 1861, and 1863. The bayonet features an 18-inch triangular blade with a forged shoulder marked “U.S.”, a 3-inch socket with an internal T-slot mortise, and a rotating locking ring for secure muzzle mounting. The offset shank design ensured clear alignment beneath the rifle barrel. Finished in dark steel with signs of honest wear, this piece exemplifies Civil War-era field design. A foundational item in U.S. military history, this bayonet is highly collectible and suitable for both display and study.
Condition
In good condition with moderate surface oxidation and patina throughout. The “U.S.” stamp is partially worn but discernible. Socket ring is present and intact but untested. No cracks or structural damage visible.
