WWI British 1907 Bayonet by Wilkinson – Marked "G.R" & 1916 Date
This is an original British WWI Pattern 1907 bayonet, manufactured by Wilkinson Sword Company and dated 1916. Designed for use with the SMLE (Short Magazine Lee-Enfield) rifle, this model saw widespread service during the First World War.
The blade is marked "1907 Wilkinson 16 G.R", indicating manufacture in 1916 under the reign of King George V, with the royal cypher “G.R” (Georgius Rex) stamped beneath a crown. The reverse ricasso shows military inspection marks including “X” (bend test proof), “GWE”, and “3YE”, signifying British military acceptance and inspection.
The piece features a fullered steel blade with aged patina, a steel guard, and wooden grip panels fastened with standard steel rivets. The overall character, wear, and markings confirm its authenticity and service history.
This bayonet is a collectible and historically significant military artifact, ideal for display or addition to any WWI collection.
Condition:
In good condition overall with age-appropriate wear. The blade shows scattered surface oxidation and darkened patina consistent with field use and long-term storage. The wood grips exhibit wear and slight darkening but remain firmly attached. Markings remain clearly legible on both sides. Structurally solid and complete.
