Winchester U.S. Model 1917 Bayonet — Dated 1917, 17" Blade
This authentic U.S. Model 1917 bayonet was manufactured by Winchester in 1917, as indicated by the "1917" date and the encircled "W" stamp on the ricasso. Originally designed for the U.S. M1917 Enfield .30 caliber rifle, this bayonet was also compatible with several U.S. trench shotguns, including the Winchester Model 1897 and Model 12 .
The bayonet features a 17-inch fullered steel blade with a single edge and spear point. The wooden grip panels are secured with screws and display the characteristic deep grooves, a design element carried over from the British Pattern 1913 bayonet to distinguish it from other models . The reverse side of the ricasso bears the standard "U.S." military marking.
With an overall length of 21.75 inches, this bayonet is a significant piece of military history, reflecting the collaborative manufacturing efforts between the U.S. and Britain during World War I. Its robust construction and historical significance make it a valuable addition for collectors of WWI militaria or edged weapons.
Condition:
In good condition overall, exhibiting age-appropriate wear consistent with its service history. The blade maintains its structural integrity, showing a darkened patina and minor surface wear. The wooden grips display handling marks and light cracking but remain firmly attached. All markings are clear and legible. Please refer to the provided images for detailed views of the bayonet's condition.
