U.S. M4 Bayonet with M8A1 Scabbard – West German Manufacture
This is a U.S. M4 bayonet accompanied by an M8A1 scabbard, both indicative of Cold War-era production. The M4 bayonet was originally designed for the M1 Carbine and continued in service through the Korean and Vietnam Wars. This particular example features a molded black checkered plastic grip, a parkerized 6.5-inch spear-point blade, and is marked "U.S. M4" on the crossguard.
The accompanying M8A1 scabbard is marked "U.S. M8A1 – Made in W.-Germany," signifying production under NATO contracts during the Cold War period. These scabbards were manufactured in West Germany, notably by firms such as Eickhorn-Solingen, to support U.S. and allied forces stationed in Europe .
This bayonet and scabbard set represents a significant piece of Cold War military history and would be a valuable addition to any militaria collection.
Condition
Good condition overall. The blade retains a sharp edge with light surface wear. The molded grip is intact and secure with minimal handling marks. The scabbard shows some light wear to the fiberglass body and metal fittings but remains structurally sound. Markings on both bayonet and scabbard are clear and legible.
