Stiffel Wall Thermometer — Solid Walnut & Brass, 23.5", Mid-Century
This vintage wall-mounted Fahrenheit thermometer is maker marked by Stiffel, a brand renowned for its mid-century lighting and decorative objects. Crafted from solid walnut and accented with brass finials and bottom fittings, this piece exemplifies Stiffel’s reputation for elegant, finely crafted design.
The thermometer features a vertically oriented glass mercury-style tube, housed within a gold-tone metal faceplate with scroll embellishments and bold, black numerals ranging from -40°F to 120°F. The back of the unit displays the original Stiffel nameplate, affirming its authenticity. The architectural crown and footed base echo the classic proportions of 19th-century barometers but with a distinctly mid-20th-century Americana aesthetic.
Dating likely to the 1960s or 1970s, this model was one of Stiffel’s decorative home thermometers, produced with the same attention to quality as their iconic lamps. These thermometers are increasingly collectible, appreciated for their warm material palette, refined execution, and blend of form and function.
Wall-mountable and fully intact, this piece is ideal as both a functioning indoor thermometer and a statement accent in traditional, vintage, or eclectic interiors.
Condition
In good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age. There is visible scuffing and edge wear to the wooden frame, and some finish wear to the back panel. The thermometer tube appears intact and the brass fittings are secure, with an aged patina.
