Antique Ford Gum & Machine Co Vending Machine
This authentic Ford 1¢ gumball machine, serial number #179894, was manufactured by the Ford Gum & Machine Co., Lockport, NY, likely in the late 1930s to early 1940s. It features the original glass globe with the classic “Ford Branded Quality Ball Gum” decal and a steel base with a nickel-plated finish. The machine includes the curved metal vending chute, characteristic of earlier models, and retains its original label and serial number collar .
Ford Gum & Machine Co. was founded in 1913 by Ford S. Mason and relocated to Lockport, NY, in 1934. The company gained prominence during the Great Depression by partnering with charities, allowing organizations to profit from machine placements.
Condition:
Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. The steel base exhibits oxidation, surface scratches, and a small dent, along with finish wear and areas of pitting, contributing to an authentic patina. The original glass globe is intact, and the label remains legible. The vending mechanism appears complete but has not been tested for operation.
