Victorian Tiger Oak Draw-Leaf Dining Set —Monumental Barley Twist Legs +5 Chairs
A commanding centerpiece from the Victorian era, this antique draw-leaf dining table showcases exceptional craftsmanship in richly figured quarter-sawn tiger oak. Its most striking feature is the set of monumental barley twist legs, deeply turned and proportioned at approximately 6 inches in diameter, lending a sculptural and architectural presence that anchors the design.
The tabletop’s vibrant ribbon grain and warm patina highlight the natural beauty of the oak, while the apron is delicately carved with a repeating bead-and-reel motif, offering decorative detail without overwhelming the clean geometry. The table includes four 11-inch leaves (two not pictured), expanding the top from a square 48-inch form to an extended length of up to 92 inches—ideal for formal gatherings or spacious interiors.
Accompanying the table are five Victorian tiger oak dining chairs, each with original hand-woven cane seats, turned spindle backs, and carved crests. Though one chair has undergone significant refinishing and repair, the set as a whole supports the table’s stylistic integrity while providing practical seating.
This ensemble is an outstanding representation of late 19th-century Jacobean Revival style—blending functionality, dramatic design, and rich materials in a way that continues to resonate in both traditional and transitional interiors.
Condition
In good antique condition with expected surface wear from age and use. The table shows scuffing, scratches, and areas of finish wear; the rich oak grain remains vibrant. Previously restored with visible signs of old repairs. One chair has undergone substantial structural and surface restoration. Some hardware is not original. The draw-leaf mechanism currently does not fully extend to accommodate all four leaves—adjustment or repair may be required. Please review all photos for a complete view of condition.
