(2) Kodak Brownie Starmatic Camera with Box – Electric Eye, Vintage 1959
Released in 1959 and discontinued in the early 1960s, the Starmatic represented a significant leap forward in the Brownie line. It introduced electric-eye metering into the affordable snapshot market and helped bridge the gap between casual users and emerging photo hobbyists during the postwar camera boom. This is a Kodak Brownie Starmatic housed here with its original, visually striking retail box. The Starmatic was Kodak’s first Brownie to feature automatic exposure via its built-in selenium “Electric Eye” light meter, combining ease of use with technical sophistication.
Physical Characteristics:
The camera body is crafted from molded black plastic with a silver aluminum faceplate and features Kodak’s Kodar f/8 lens. It has a prominent built-in selenium meter window above the lens and dual flash sockets compatible with standard flashbulbs. The square format lens ring is engraved “Brownie Starmatic Camera” and “Kodar Lens f/8.” The viewfinder is centrally located with an adjacent flashcube socket for quick attachment. This model takes 127 roll film and produces twelve 4x4 cm exposures per roll. Original box included, styled with space-age concentric red/orange graphics, reflects the “Electric Eye” branding theme.
Condition Overview:
Good, untested, unable to test, comes as shown. Visible shelf wear to box, scuffs visible to both cameras.
