Kodak Reflex II Twin-Lens Reflex Camera — 1950s, Mid-Century Design
This is a Kodak Reflex II, a classic American twin-lens reflex (TLR) camera introduced in the early 1950s by Eastman Kodak. It represents Kodak’s answer to the popular German Rolleicord/Rolleiflex style cameras, offering solid engineering in a more affordable, domestically produced package.
The Reflex II features paired 83mm Kodak Anastigmat lenses—one for viewing and one for taking—set in a sleek, Bakelite-clad metal body with nickel-plated trim. The camera has a built-in waist-level finder with pop-up hood, allowing for accurate ground-glass composition and critical focusing. The shutter offers speed selections from 1/200 down to 1 second, plus "B" and "T" modes, controlled via front-mounted dials. It shoots 2¼ x 2¼" square images on 620 film, with a red window advance system and bright viewfinder optics.
Aesthetically, the Kodak Reflex II embodies the industrial confidence of postwar America. The embossed leatherette panels, crisp white enamel nameplate, and red Kodak medallion offer rich visual contrast. It’s a perfect blend of function and form—compact yet sculptural, utilitarian yet elegant.
Whether for a display collection, mid-century décor, or analog camera enthusiasts, this Kodak Reflex II is a standout piece that bridges American design and photographic legacy.
Condition
In excellent cosmetic condition with minor wear. Viewfinder hood pops up properly and lens optics appear clean. Dials turn smoothly. Kodak front lens cap included. Camera is untested for function, but all mechanical elements present well. A beautiful survivor with strong visual presence.
