Description

Hand-Carved Chinese Chest — Brass Lock, Dovetail, 1940s

A vintage hand-carved Chinese wood chest, likely mid-20th century, adorned with intricate relief carvings of traditional landscapes, fan motifs, and blossoming branches. Crafted using dovetail joinery, this box is both functional and decorative, with beautifully aged camphor wood offering a warm, aromatic character.

The exterior features deep, tactile carvings on all visible panels, enhanced by a naturally worn two-tone finish. A brass hasp lock and key are included, though the mechanism is currently stiff and difficult to operate. The chest sits on simple bracket feet and opens to reveal a raw wood interior.

Ideal for storage, display, or as an accent piece, this chest blends craftsmanship and utility with an authentically aged patina.
