Description

Esta Bain 1989 Blanket Woman Figure – Hand-Sculpted, Signed, 9"

This signed 1989 ceramic sculpture by Esta Bain presents one of her iconic “Blanket Woman” figures—serene, stylized, and rich in Southwestern symbolism. Crafted in terracotta, the woman stands wrapped in a crackle-glazed shawl with a ribbed border, hand-painted with delicate blue floral accents. Her skirt is textured in vertical ridges, and she wears Bain’s signature turquoise-hued earrings and leather-tied bun.

Esta Bain, a New Mexico-based ceramicist, is celebrated for these cloaked, meditative figures that evoke themes of protection, maternal grace, and cultural heritage. Signed “Esta Bain J89” on the base, this piece stands approximately 9 inches tall and remains a compelling example of 20th-century Southwestern studio pottery.

Perfect for collectors of folk art, Native-inspired ceramics, or Bain’s distinctive aesthetic.

Condition

Excellent condition overall. No chips, cracks, or repairs. Glaze shows intentional surface crazing consistent with Bain’s style.
