Lenora Fragua Jemez Pueblo Wedding Vase – Hand-Coiled, Signed Native Pottery
This wedding vase is the work of Lenora Fragua, a respected potter from the Jemez Pueblo of New Mexico. Entirely hand-coiled and signed on the base "Lenora Fragua, Jemez". It features a symbolic double-spouted form—used in ceremonial contexts to represent unity—and is decorated with finely painted geometric and botanical motifs in natural clay, terracotta, and black mineral pigments.
Lenora Fragua comes from a well-known family of Jemez potters and continues the legacy of traditional Pueblo pottery using natural clays, hand-coiling methods, and mineral-based paints. Her work has been shown in Native art exhibitions and is collected widely for its cultural authenticity and artistic quality.
Condition:
Good condition overall, with surface scuffing, minor shelf wear, and a visible glaze irregularity near the base—a common result of traditional outdoor firing. A nickel is shown in the image to illustrate the scale of this imperfection. These characteristics are inherent to the handmade firing process and add to the authenticity of the piece.
