Castor-Cooper Pewter Pitcher — Sculptural Form, 104/1000, 9.25" Tall
This sculptural pewter pitcher is a striking work from the Castor-Cooper Collection, a collaboration between American artists Harold Castor (1915–2000) and Dorothy Cooper. Known for their use of traditional pewter casting techniques, the duo produced limited-edition decorative and functional objects that blend modernist forms with organic textures.
Hand-cast in lead-free pewter, this piece (No. 104 of 1000) exemplifies their signature style: a lobed, bulbous base transitions into a faceted neck adorned with applied berry-like motifs, evoking a Brutalist-meets-Art Nouveau sensibility. The gracefully curved handle adds elegance and functionality. No two Castor-Cooper pieces are identical, as each was individually cast using an antiquity-inspired method, avoiding mass production.
The base bears the distinctive Castor-Cooper hallmark along with its edition number, and the original Certificate of Authenticity is included. Created in the 1980s, this vessel is both a functional pitcher and an art object, making it a standout piece for collectors of American studio metalwork.
