Tiny Hand-Carved Swan🦢, Antler or Ivory or Bone, Artist Unknown View Watchlist >
For her 70th birthday, our good friend J decided that she wanted to see the Northwest Territories, so she and her dog spent several months driving to and around that part of the world. She saw lots of beautiful scenery, met quite a few really cool folks, and purchased some amazing art. This tiny hand-carved swan and nest with eggs are one of J’s purchases. There is so much detail, one must study the pieces up close for a few moments to begin to see all the intricacies. Of course photos do NOT do justice to the art piece. This is one piece that has to be seen up close and personal to really appreciate the meticulous carving. Please notice the photo of the swan next to the quarter as a size reference. This is a TINY piece of art!🦢y
In searching the internet, a friend found a few similar carvings. Although there is a signature on the bottom of the nest, we couldn’t find any information that led us to the artist’s identity. Probably carved out of antler, ivory or bone, we couldn’t find any experts who could help us positively identify the carved medium. In our very humble opinion, it seems more like antler than ivory or bone. The estimated value of this amazingly detailed swan is $150-175.
