Pair of Chinese Inside-Painted Glass Snuff Bottles – Panda & Tiger Scenes
Pair of Chinese inside-painted glass snuff bottles, likely late 20th century. Each features intricate reverse-painted animal scenes: one with pandas amid bamboo, the other with tigers in a vibrant mountain landscape. Both designs are rendered with fine brushwork on the interior glass walls, showcasing traditional Chinese artistry.
The clear rectangular forms are fitted with domed stoppers—one in red and the other brown. Both sides of each bottle are decorated, adding depth and visual interest. One bottle includes calligraphic markings near the base.
These bottles exemplify the traditional Chinese art of inside painting, a meticulous technique where artists paint detailed images on the interior surfaces of glass vessels. This art form gained prominence during the Qing Dynasty and experienced a revival in the late 20th century, particularly in regions like Hengshui, known for producing high-quality inside-painted snuff bottles .
Ideal for collectors of Asian decorative arts or as display pieces reflecting meticulous handcraft and cultural symbolism.
Condition
In good condition with wear consistent with age and use. Both bottles exhibit chips, primarily around the edges and rims (visible in images). Some internal residue and minor imperfections are present but do not detract significantly from the display value. Paintwork remains bright and detailed.
