Description

Mid-Century Red Ceramic Jar w/ Blown Glass Knob — Studio Pottery, 6.75"

This striking mid-century studio pottery jar combines playful design with expert craftsmanship. The body and lid are hand-formed in ceramic and finished in a rich, high-gloss red glaze, accented by bold polka dots in deep blue, ochre, and black. Topping the lid is a sculptural hand-blown glass knob in translucent orange, adding a dramatic, tactile focal point.

Unsigned and unmarked, this piece likely dates to the 1960s–1970s and reflects strong European modernist influences, particularly from Italian or West German ceramic traditions. Its bold form, vibrant colors, and combination of materials are characteristic of the era's emphasis on artisanal yet functional design.

The lid rests securely with a fixed cork insert underneath, which acts as a spacer rather than a sealing mechanism. The unglazed interior and foot reveal the natural stoneware body, adding earthy contrast to the high-gloss exterior.

Perfect for storing kitchen staples that benefit from darkness and dust protection—such as garlic, shallots, dried herbs, or dried chilies—or for use simply as a distinctive decorative object. A rare and collectible piece of mid-century artistry that would enhance any vintage or eclectic space.

Condition:
In excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The glaze remains vibrant and glossy. The cork insert is intact and securely attached. Please refer to the photos for further detail—note the soup can pictured for scale reference.

Size:

  • Height (with lid): 6.75 inches
  • Diameter: 5.75 inches
