Description

This glass mosaic cross was gifted to us by artist Sandi Nelsen of Loveland, CO. We have carried Sandi’s mosaic art in our Cloudcroft gift shop/gallery, Off the Beaten Path, for several years, and her glass pieces have proven quite popular. Sandi creates all sorts of sizes and shapes of glass mosaic art for us, including rectangles large and small (with and without mirrors), hearts, and now a cross. Pieces of stained glass are hand cut and adhered to a sturdy backing in whatever pattern Sandi chooses. She then applies the grout, which fills the spaces in between the glass pieces and completes that particular mosaic. Finally, Sandi glues a sawtooth hanger or wire on the back of each piece for easy hanging. Check out the closeup photos to see details of Sandi's glass cross. The price of this cool cross is $48.

About the Artist:

Sandi Nelsen, Loveland, CO

Sandi Nelsen always has had a passion for creating in three dimensions. After graduating from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, she entered the clothing business, first as a professional pattern maker then as a clothing designer for Levi Strauss & Company in San Francisco. Upon moving to Colorado, she discovered the art of mosaic. As Sandi states, "I love making mosaics because I have always been fascinated by color, texture and shape. Especially, how they interact and influence each other. Mosaic is an art form as much defined by the materials as the subject matter. The interplay of materials as they are laid, the colors, the grout lines; all work together to define the piece."

Condition:
Good - the grout is slightly chipped on one back corner on the top of the cross. This slight flaw does not deter from the integrity of the cross. See detailed photos.
