Vladimir Tarasenko Ukrainian Autumn Vista, 1971
This evocative oil on canvas by Vladimir Tarasenko, dated 1971 and signed in Cyrillic ("В. Тарасенко 71 г."), captures a serene Ukrainian autumn vista rendered with tonal warmth and striking naturalism. A tranquil hillside unfolds beneath a soft sky, dotted with golden birch trees in peak seasonal color.
Executed in a warm palette of ochres, russets, and misty blues, the painting’s confident brushwork and layered texture lend it visual depth and emotional resonance. The scene reflects Tarasenko’s realist tradition while suggesting a poetic connection to his homeland’s natural rhythms. Housed in an ornate gilt wood frame (no glass), this piece makes a refined and peaceful visual statement.

About the Artist: Vladimir Stefanovich Tarasenko (1938–2002)
Vladimir Tarasenko was a Ukrainian painter whose work epitomized the lyrical realism of the Soviet-era art movement. Born in 1938, he trained at the prestigious Kyiv Art Institute, studying under Vasily Zabashta and Victor Puzyrkov—two giants of mid-century Ukrainian academic art. He graduated with honors in 1969 and was soon exhibiting widely, earning membership in the Union of Artists of the USSR.
His artistic focus remained close to the land: seasonal rural scenes, forested hillsides, and quiet vistas that resonate with emotional depth and regional identity. Known for painting en plein air, Tarasenko translated his intimate experience of Ukraine’s natural beauty into works of contemplative realism.
He participated in over twenty exhibitions throughout the USSR and abroad, and in 1985 received a diploma from the Ministry of Culture of the USSR. Today, his works reside in public museums in Ukraine and private collections across Europe and North America.
