Artist Biography – Sam Park

Sam Park (b. 1949, Seoul, South Korea) is a celebrated contemporary impressionist known for his vibrant cityscapes, romantic waterfronts, and richly textured landscapes. His work combines classical techniques with modern sensibilities, drawing influence from European impressionism and the lush realism of post-impressionist painters.

Park began painting at the age of twelve, and by thirteen, he was teaching painting at the local high school. His talent attracted the attention of prominent artists and heads of state early on. After graduating from Jung Ang University in Seoul, he traveled to France to further his studies, immersing himself in the European art scene. In 1984, Park returned to Korea to participate in a national art competition for the 1988 Olympic Games, where he won the Gold Medal among over 2,000 entrants. Following the Olympics, his painting was purchased by the Hyundai Corporation for their corporate headquarters.

In the early 1990s, Park relocated to the United States and quickly became a prominent figure in the gallery circuit. He is perhaps best known to collectors through his association with Park West Gallery, where his embellished giclées and original oils have gained widespread popularity.

His distinctive style is characterized by luminous light, vibrant color palettes, and a near-photographic attention to architectural and natural detail. Whether capturing the serenity of the Amalfi Coast, the energy of a Parisian street café, or the charm of a flower-lined canal, Park infuses each composition with warmth, atmosphere, and romance.

Today, Sam Park's works are held in private and corporate collections worldwide. He continues to paint prolifically, and his art remains highly sought-after among collectors of modern impressionism.
