Description

Hivana Leyendecker Watercolor — Autumn Farm Scene, 29.5" Framed

Original watercolor by Hivana Leyendecker, an accomplished mid-century American artist, depicting a serene autumn landscape in the mountainous region of southern New Mexico. A winding country road leads to a rustic barn nestled among golden foliage, framed by distant blue hills and a soft sky. The warm palette and delicate brushwork evoke the quiet beauty of fall in areas like Cloudcroft or Ruidoso, where the artist lived and exhibited.

The piece is signed in the lower right and presented under glass in a beveled wood frame, double matted with cream and a golden inner bevel. This tranquil scene is ideal for collectors of regional American art or those seeking a nature-inspired focal piece for home or office décor.

Artist Biography

Hivana Leyendecker (b. circa 1917) was a multi-disciplinary artist active in the American Southwest during the mid-20th century. Working in watercolor, sculpture, jewelry, collage, and graphic arts, she exhibited extensively in New Mexico, Arizona, and California. Her work, including pieces like Organs—Snow (1956), now held in the permanent collection at New Mexico State University, reflects a deep connection to the landscape and culture of the region. Her style blends expressive realism with a sensitivity to light, season, and texture—especially evident in scenes drawn from the Sacramento and Sierra Blanca mountain ranges.

Condition

In good condition. The watercolor is vibrant and intact, showing no visible damage. The frame exhibits some scuffing and surface wear, consistent with age, but remains structurally sound. Matting and glass are clean and do not detract from the overall presentation.
