Late 19th Century Treen Mahogany Trick Coin Bank – Hidden Drawer
A late 19th-century treen coin bank crafted in fine mahogany with a hidden drawer mechanism. Modeled in the form of a miniature cabinet, this cleverly designed piece merges Victorian elegance with functional novelty. The brass-pulled drawer reveals a secret internal compartment, traditionally used to “vanish” coins—typical of period magic tricks and mechanical banks. Its warm patina, molded base, and overhanging top showcase careful craftsmanship, while the restored finish highlights the natural grain of the wood. A classic example of treen, this piece served both as an amusing parlour curiosity and a moral savings aid. A rare and engaging collectible for folk art, magic, or antique toy enthusiasts.
Condition:
Good antique condition with some surface wear. Closure hardware (underside screws) are later replacements. Drawer mechanism functions as intended. Several coins remain inside, adding character and authenticity.
