Description

Antique Lundstrom Stacking Oak Barrister Bookcase – 4-Stack, Original Glass, 58.5" Tall

An early 20th-century Barrister Bookcase - by C.J. Lundstrom Manufacturing Co., a notable competitor to Globe-Wernicke. Made in Little Falls, New York, this solid quarter sawn oak piece features Lundstrom’s patented Universal Design, allowing each of its four bookcase sections to stack and unstack with ease.

The bookcase consists of three 11.5" sections and one taller 13.5" section, all with original lift-and-slide glass fronts, capped by the original top and base sections. It disassembles into six modular components, making it easy to move and arrange. Partially legible paper labels on the back of two sections confirm its authenticity, with markings such as "11 1/2 U" and "9 1/4 U", standard Lundstrom identifiers from this era.

Richly grained oak panels, clean joinery, and visible hardware ties this piece to the Arts & Crafts movement, offering both historical appeal and practical utility. Whether used to display books, collectibles, or as an elegant storage solution, it’s a striking blend of function and form.

Originally designed for law offices and libraries, this piece remains a timeless storage solution. Its modular construction and vintage character make it a standout for interiors ranging from traditional to eclectic. Perfect for collectors, bibliophiles, or anyone drawn to finely crafted furniture with a story to tell.

Condition

In good condition overall, with light surface wear and minor scuffs consistent with age. The wood shows a warm, even tone, and the original glass panels are intact. Some wear is visible on the rear panels, including natural patina and faded areas around the labels. All doors function as intended, and the unit is structurally sound.
