Antique E.D.V. French Coffee Grinder — Brass, Wood, Cast Iron, 10" Wide
A rare antique French coffee grinder marked Marque E.D.V. Déposée, likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. This charming tabletop mill features a dovetail-joined wooden cabinet, a flared brass hopper, and cast iron grinding hardware with a turned wood handle and knob. The original brass maker’s plaque remains affixed to the front, adding authenticity and historical charm.
Built using flathead screws and traditional joinery, this piece reflects fine craftsmanship typical of early European kitchenware. Its elegant mix of materials—warm wood, aged brass, and iron—makes it a standout decorative accent as well as a collector's item. While lesser known than brands like Peugeot, E.D.V. mills are prized for their durability and rustic appeal.
Condition
In fair antique condition with age-appropriate wear throughout. Visible scuffing, denting, finish loss, and oxidation to metal surfaces. The base is partially separating from the cabinet; a natural split is present on the right side. Signs of prior repair and restoration are also visible. The mechanism turns, but it is untested for actual grinding. Please examine all photos for additional condition details.
