About the Artist:
Russell Mott is a dedicated ceramic artist based in Mesilla, New Mexico. Embarking on his pottery journey later in life, Mott has honed his skills through apprenticeships with renowned potters such as Claude Smith III, Steve Hemingway, Dave Porter, and Alex Williams. His commitment to the craft is evident in his rigorous routine, often starting his workday between 3 to 4 AM and dedicating 10 to 14 hours daily in the studio. Mott's work is characterized by his fascination with traditional raku firing techniques, which he finds both challenging and rewarding. His pieces are known for their unique textures, organic patterns, and vibrant glazes, making them highly sought after by collectors and art enthusiasts alike.
In addition to his personal studio, Mott operated MVS Studios, a gallery and custom frame shop in downtown Las Cruces, which served as a creative hub for local artists.
